Delight in simple treasures.
                                                 
Beautyberry shines in autumn.
Its metallic purple berries
and yellow leaves glow.
                                         
The berries often carry into winter.
                          
Local birds will feed on them.
Local deer also enjoy this plant.

 WHERE is
     The Garden Elf Michelle?                
                                              
During September
IN MY GARDEN 
+Planting lettuce, spinach, & broccoli seeds.
+ Harvest tomatoes, basil, garlic, & perilla (tastes like cumin).
+Keep raccoons from eating all my fruit!  
+ Harvest plums, pears, & apples.
+Make tea from harvested & dried
mint & lemon balm leaves
+Package dried oregano, thyme, lavender, & rosemary for cooking.                                         
IN COMMUNITY
+ Volunteer at NW Horticulture Society's plant sale on Sept. 17 & 18th.

Makes tasty coleslaw!

Just pull, clean, chop, & slice!
                
Add fresh tomatoes, cucumbers,
and onions to the mix.  Douse with seasoned rice vinegar.
       
Add pepper and pinch
of chives to taste.
         
Enjoy on a warm day.
                
Dessert: Handful of blueberries
straight from the plant!

      by flies and mosquitoes . . . 
                            
--Plant Annual Geraniums
to keep flies away.
                
--Plant rosemary, marigolds,
ageratum, agastache/hyssop, 
catnip, or scented geranium
(citronella scent) to keep mosquitoes away.
