Design

Prior to design work, it is important to know your landscape needs and wishes.

1. DISCOVER YOUR TASTES  Capture "the look" and elements that you like.  Tour neighborhoods and take pictures. Collect pictures from books and magazines.  Some elements include flagstone patios, arbors, water features, rock outcroppings, and screens.

2. DEFINE YOUR SPACES   Determine the functions you need such as patios/decks, pathways, lawn, beds, fence, play area, and dog run.

3. IDENTIFY YOUR VIEWS   Identify important views such as entry to house, kitchen/living room view, outdoor patio view.  Next, think about how to best frame and "dress up" these views with structures, focal plants, and other materials.
